Justice Sanjiv Khanna Sworn in as 51st Chief Justice of India
New Delhi: Justice Sanjiv Khanna was sworn in as the 51st Chief Justice of India, stepping into the role after former Chief Justice DY Chandrachud retired yesterday. The oath was administered by President Droupadi Murmu at a ceremony held at Rashtrapati Bhavan. Justice Khanna, who is 64 years old, will hold the position for a term of six months, with his retirement scheduled for May 13 next year.
The ceremony was attended by several dignitaries, including Vice-President Jagdeep Dhankhar, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, and other senior officials. Former Chief Justice DY Chandrachud was also present to witness the occasion.
Hailing from Delhi, Chief Justice Khanna completed his schooling at Modern School on Barakhamba Road and later attended St. Stephen’s College. He pursued his law degree at Delhi University’s Campus Law Centre, laying the foundation for his distinguished legal career.
